Make tender, juicy chicken strips with an extra crispy Parmesan crust using your air fryer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch strips
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray (oil-based)

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk the egg and milk together to create the egg wash.
  2. In a second shallow bowl, combine the Panko breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Pat the chicken strips dry with paper towels. This step helps the coating stick.
  4. Dip each chicken strip first into the egg wash, allowing excess to drip off.
  5. Dredge the chicken strip thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to make sure the coating adheres completely.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C) for 5 minutes.
  7. Lightly spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  8. Arrange the coated chicken tenders in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not overlap. You may need to cook in batches.
  9. Lightly spray the tops of the chicken tenders with cooking spray.
  10. Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping the tenders halfway through the cooking time.
  11. Continue cooking until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F or 74°C).
  12. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For maximum crispiness, ensure your Panko breadcrumbs are fresh.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cooking in batches promotes even air circulation and crisping.
  • If you prefer a slightly thicker crust, you can double-dip the tenders: egg wash, breading, egg wash again, then breading again.
