Make a quick, budget-friendly ham steak coated in a sweet, caramelized brown sugar glaze. This recipe delivers big holiday flavor fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Ham Steaks (about 1/2 inch thick)
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar (packed)
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon Mustard
  • Pinch of Ground Cloves

Instructions

  1. Pat the ham steaks dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, water, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, and ground cloves.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to simmer.
  4. Reduce the heat to low. Let the glaze cook for 2 minutes until slightly thickened. Do not let it burn.
  5. Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ham steaks to the hot, dry skillet.
  6. Cook the ham steaks for 3 to 4 minutes per side until heated through and lightly browned.
  7. Brush the brown sugar glaze generously over both sides of the ham steaks during the last minute of cooking.
  8. Remove the ham steaks from the skillet and serve immediately with any remaining glaze spooned over the top.

Notes

  • Use pre-cooked, cured ham steaks for the fastest results.
  • Adjust the vinegar amount for a tangier glaze if you prefer.
  • This glaze works well brushed on pork chops too.
