Ingredients
Scale
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 cup packed light brown sugar
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
Melt the butter and the chopped unsweetened chocolate together in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
Whisk the granulated sugar and brown sugar into the melted chocolate mixture until combined.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Gently fold in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips.
Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips over the top of the batter.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. A toothpick inserted near the edge should come out with moist crumbs attached, but not wet batter.
Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting them out using the parchment paper overhang and cutting them into squares.
Notes
To prevent chocolate chips from sinking, toss them lightly with one tablespoon of the flour mixture before folding them into the batter.
For a fudgier texture, slightly underbake them by about 2 minutes.
Use high-quality cocoa powder for the deepest chocolate flavor.
