Make rich, fudgy brownies infused with the distinct flavor of root beer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup root beer concentrate or 1/4 cup root beer extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat.
  3. Whisk in the cocoa powder until smooth.
  4. Stir in the sugar until fully combined.
  5. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Mix in the vanilla extract and the root beer concentrate or extract until the batter is uniform.
  7. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  8. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing only until just combined. Do not overmix.
  9. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  10. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  11. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with moist crumbs attached, not wet batter.
  12. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting out using the parchment overhang and cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For a stronger root beer flavor, reduce 1/2 cup of regular root beer on the stove until you have 1/4 cup of syrup, then use this in place of the extract.
  • Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best chocolate taste.
  • Do not overbake; these brownies are best when fudgy.
