Ingredients
Scale
1 cup fresh cilantro leaves, packed
4 cups cold water
1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 4-5 limes)
1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
Ice cubes for serving
Instructions
Place the cilantro and 1 cup of the cold water into a blender. Blend until the cilantro is finely chopped and the water is bright green.
Pour the cilantro mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher, pressing lightly on the solids to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids.
Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water, lime juice, and sugar to the pitcher.
Stir well until the sugar dissolves completely. Taste the agua fresca and add more sugar or lime juice if needed for your preference.
Chill the agua fresca in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Serve over plenty of ice cubes.
Notes
For a less intense cilantro flavor, you can reduce the amount to 3/4 cup.
If you prefer a sweeter drink, increase the sugar slightly.
You can substitute agave nectar or a zero-calorie sweetener for the granulated sugar.
