Bake your chicken wings to achieve that satisfying crunch you love, without the mess and extra fat of deep frying. These oven-baked wings offer bold flavor and the perfect crisp texture for your next gathering.

Ingredients

  • Chicken Wings (flats and drumettes): 2 lbs
  • Baking Powder (aluminum-free): 1 tablespoon
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon
  • Black Pepper: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic Powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Onion Powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika: 1 teaspoon
  • Cayenne Pepper (optional): 1/4 teaspoon
  • Your Favorite Sauce (e.g., Buffalo or BBQ): 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a wire rack set over the sheet.
  2. Pat the chicken wings completely dry using paper towels. This step is key for crispiness.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Add the dried chicken wings to the seasoning mixture. Toss well until every piece is evenly coated.
  5. Arrange the wings on the prepared baking sheet or rack in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes.
  7. Flip the wings over.
  8. Bake for another 20 to 25 minutes, or until the skin is deeply golden brown and very crisp.
  9. Remove the wings from the oven.
  10. Toss immediately in your favorite sauce if desired, or serve dry with dipping sauces on the side.

Notes

  • Drying the wings thoroughly removes surface moisture crucial for a crispy skin.
  • Baking powder reacts with the chicken skin, helping it brown and crisp up beautifully.
  • Using a wire rack allows air to circulate underneath, promoting even crisping on all sides.
