Ingredients
Scale
10 cups cubed day-old bread
4 cups eggnog
4 large eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the Bourbon Sauce:
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup bourbon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Arrange the bread cubes in the prepared baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggnog, eggs, 3/4 cup sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Pour the eggnog mixture evenly over the bread cubes. Gently press the bread down to ensure it is soaked.
Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the pudding is set and golden brown.
While the pudding bakes, prepare the bourbon sauce. In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup butter.
Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar and butter are dissolved. Bring to a gentle simmer.
Remove from heat and stir in the bourbon and vanilla extract.
Let the sauce cool slightly before serving over the warm bread pudding.
Notes
Using day-old bread is key for the best texture.
You can add raisins or chopped pecans to the pudding mixture for extra flavor and texture.
If you don’t have bourbon, you can use rum or omit it from the sauce.
