Create a spectacular holiday ham with a surprising sweet and tangy glaze featuring the unique flavor of cola. This recipe gives your traditional centerpiece a fun, modern twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Bone-in Ham (8-10 lbs)
  • 1 cup Cola (sugared, not diet)
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup Dijon Mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • Fresh Pineapple Rings (for garnish)
  • Maraschino Cherries (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Place the ham cut-side down in a roasting pan.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the cola, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, cloves, and cinnamon.
  3. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Let it boil gently for about 5 minutes until it thickens slightly into a glaze. Remove from heat.
  4. Brush about one-third of the glaze evenly over the entire surface of the ham.
  5. Bake the ham for approximately 15 minutes per pound, basting with more glaze every 30 minutes.
  6. During the last 30 minutes of cooking, increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C). Apply the remaining glaze liberally.
  7. Bake until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C) and the exterior is deeply caramelized.
  8. Remove the ham from the oven. Let it rest, loosely tented with foil, for 15 to 20 minutes before carving.
  9. Garnish the rested ham with pineapple rings and maraschino cherries for a festive look.

Notes

  • You can use a pre-cooked, fully cooked ham for this recipe. Adjust cooking time based on package directions for reheating.
  • If the glaze becomes too thick while simmering, add a splash more cola to thin it slightly.
  • Elias recommends tasting the glaze before applying to adjust sweetness or tanginess to your preference.
