An easy homemade cranberry sauce recipe that’s a step up from the usual, featuring bright orange zest and warm spices for a holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (12 ounces) fresh cranberries, rinsed and picked over
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Combine cranberries, sugar, water, and orange juice in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until most of the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
  4. Stir in the orange zest, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool completely. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish.

Notes

  • For a smoother sauce, you can press the cooked cranberries through a sieve.
  • Adjust spices to your preference.
  • This sauce can be made a day or two in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
