Discover the Magic Three-Layer Custard Cake, a unique dessert recipe where one simple batter bakes into three distinct, luscious custard-like layers. It’s a delightful surprise for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 large eggs, separated
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and sugar.
  3. Add the melted butter and egg yolks, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with the salt until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the batter until just combined.
  7. In a small bowl, warm the milk slightly.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  9. Slowly and evenly pour the warm milk over the batter. Do not stir.
  10. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Ensure your eggs are at room temperature for best results.
  • The milk should be warm, not hot, to avoid cooking the batter.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before serving for the layers to fully set.
  • This cake is best served chilled.
