A quick and flavorful soy ginger marinade perfect for searing or grilling tuna steak, providing deep savory notes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound tuna steaks, about 1 inch thick

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, brown sugar, and black pepper until the sugar dissolves. This is your best oil for tuna marinade base.
  2. Place the tuna steaks in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the tuna, ensuring both sides are coated.
  3. Marinate the tuna for 15 to 30 minutes. Do not marinate longer than 30 minutes, as the acid in the vinegar can begin to change the texture of the fish.
  4. Remove the tuna from the marinade and pat it dry with paper towels before cooking. Discard the remaining marinade.
  5. Sear or grill the tuna steaks according to your preference. For a perfect sear, heat your pan or grill to high heat.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add 1/2 teaspoon of sriracha or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade mixture.
  • If you are grilling tuna steak marinade options, lightly oil your grill grates before placing the fish down.
  • This recipe works well for marinating ahi tuna.
