Make simple, bite-sized chocolate-covered bananas without turning on the oven. These frozen treats are quick to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe but firm bananas
  • 10 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips or melting wafers
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional, for smoother dipping)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped nuts or sprinkles (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. Peel the bananas and slice them into rounds about 1 inch thick. You should get about 20 to 24 pieces.
  2. Place the banana slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Freeze the banana slices for at least 1 hour, or until completely solid.
  4. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil, if using.
  5. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
  6. Remove the frozen banana slices from the freezer. Working quickly, dip each banana slice into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated. You can use a toothpick inserted into the side to hold it while dipping.
  7. Place the coated bites back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. If using toppings, immediately sprinkle chopped nuts or sprinkles over the wet chocolate.
  9. Return the baking sheet to the freezer for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate coating is hard.
  10. Store the finished bites in an airtight container in the freezer.

Notes

  • Use firm bananas; overly ripe bananas become mushy when frozen.
  • If you do not have coconut oil, you can use 1 teaspoon of vegetable shortening for a smoother chocolate coating.
  • For easy removal from the tray after freezing, place the finished bites in a freezer bag.
