Bake these Oven-Baked Honey BBQ Wings for a delicious, non-fried option. You get that sticky, caramelized BBQ flavor perfect for game day or any gathering. We focus on texture and big flavor without the deep fryer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lbs chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (not baking soda)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
  2. In a large bowl, pat the chicken wings completely dry with paper towels. This step is key for crispy skin.
  3. Toss the dry wings with baking powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  4. Arrange the wings in a single layer on the wire rack. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes.
  6. While the wings bake, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine ketchup, honey, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and garlic powder.
  7. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.
  8. After 25 minutes, flip the wings and bake for another 20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove the wings from the oven. In a large bowl, toss the hot wings thoroughly with about half of the BBQ sauce until every piece is coated.
  10. Return the sauced wings to the baking rack. Bake for a final 5-7 minutes to let the sauce caramelize.
  11. Serve immediately with the remaining sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Drying the wings very well before seasoning helps achieve crispy results without frying.
  • Baking powder raises the skin’s pH, promoting browning and crisping.
  • Adjust the honey amount in the sauce if you prefer a tangier or sweeter finish.
