Ingredients
Scale
6-8 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 6 cups)
1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to sweetness of pears)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, combine the sliced pears, granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the pears evenly.
Pour the pear mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt. Whisk to combine.
Add the cold butter pieces to the flour mixture. Use your fingers, a pastry blender, or a fork to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces of butter remaining.
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the pear mixture in the baking dish.
Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pear filling is bubbling and tender when pierced with a fork.
Let the crumble cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Choose firm but ripe pears for the best texture.
Adjust the amount of granulated sugar based on the sweetness of your pears.
For extra flavor, add a pinch of ground ginger or cardamom to the pear filling.
You can prepare the pear filling and crumble topping ahead of time and store them separately in the refrigerator. Assemble and bake just before serving.
