Ingredients
Scale
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon rosewater
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4 cup slivered almonds (for topping)
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set this dry mixture aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in the yogurt, vanilla extract, rosewater, and ground cardamom until just combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until the batter is smooth. Do not overmix.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
Sprinkle the slivered almonds evenly over the top of the batter.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
You can substitute almond flour for some of the all-purpose flour for a slightly richer texture.
Adjust the amount of rosewater based on your preference; start with less if you are new to the flavor.
This cake pairs beautifully with a light cup of black tea.
