These Philly Cheesesteak Sliders are a fun twist on a classic sandwich. Sautéed steak, onions, and melty cheese are piled into soft Hawaiian rolls brushed with butter. This recipe is an easy, shareable version of the famous Philly sub, perfect for crowds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (such as ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove onions from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Add the thinly sliced beef to the same skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease.
  4. Return the cooked onions to the skillet with the beef. Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. If using, add Worcestershire sauce and red pepper flakes. Mix well.
  5. Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping them connected. Place the bottom halves in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  6. Layer half of the provolone cheese slices over the bottom rolls.
  7. Spoon the beef and onion mixture evenly over the cheese.
  8. Top with the remaining provolone cheese slices.
  9. Place the top halves of the Hawaiian rolls over the cheese.
  10. In a small bowl, melt the butter. Brush the melted butter evenly over the tops of the rolls.
  11. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the tops of the rolls are golden brown.
  12. Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • For best results, use thinly sliced beef. You can ask your butcher to thinly slice it for you.
  • You can prepare the beef and onion mixture ahead of time and refrigerate it. Reheat before assembling the sliders.
  • These sliders are great for parties and potlucks.
