Ingredients
Scale
4 pork shoulder steaks (about 1 inch thick)
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, vegetable oil, minced garlic, and black pepper to make the marinade.
Place the pork steaks in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steaks, ensuring they are fully coated.
Refrigerate and marinate for at least 2 hours, or up to 8 hours for deeper flavor.
Preheat your grill to medium heat (about 350°F) or preheat your oven to 400°F.
Remove steaks from the marinade, discarding the remaining liquid.
For grilling: Place steaks on the oiled grill grates. Grill for 5 to 7 minutes per side, until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
For baking: Place steaks on a baking sheet lined with foil. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
Remove steaks from heat and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a Midwest cookout feel, serve these steaks with creamy coleslaw and baked beans.
Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness; 145°F is the safe minimum internal temperature for pork.
