Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups cauliflower florets
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground meat and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Add chopped onion, carrots, and celery to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in minced garlic, tomato paste, thyme, and rosemary. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. While the meat mixture simmers, steam or boil cauliflower florets until very tender, about 10-15 minutes.
  7. Drain the cauliflower well and transfer it to a food processor or bowl. Add butter and milk. Mash or process until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Spread the cauliflower mash evenly over the meat mixture in the skillet.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is lightly golden and the filling is bubbly.
  10. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can use any ground meat you prefer, such as turkey or a plant-based alternative.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables like peas or corn to the filling.
  • For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of red wine to the meat mixture.
