Create a cozy, comforting hot cocoa that tastes just like a warm Snickerdoodle cookie. This recipe brings the familiar cinnamon-sugar flavor of the classic cookie into a delightful winter drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups Milk (whole or preferred type)
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon (plus more for topping)
  • 1/8 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Cold Water
  • Whipped Cream (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Warm the mixture over medium heat, whisking frequently until it is steaming but not boiling.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk the cornstarch and cold water together until smooth to create a slurry.
  4. Slowly whisk the cornstarch slurry into the hot cocoa mixture.
  5. Continue to cook, whisking constantly, until the cocoa thickens slightly, about 1 to 2 minutes. Do not let it boil once thickened.
  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the hot cocoa into mugs.
  8. Top each serving with whipped cream and a light dusting of extra cinnamon, if desired.

Notes

  • For an extra buttery flavor reminiscent of the cookie, add 1/2 teaspoon of unsalted butter when heating the milk.
  • You can adjust the sugar to match your preferred sweetness level.
  • Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best chocolate flavor.
