Create a delicious, plant-based Sweet Chili Tofu Stir Fry. This recipe delivers crisp tofu and bright vegetables coated in a sticky, bold sauce for a satisfying, lighter meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari)
  • 2 tablespoons neutral oil (like canola or avocado)
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup snap peas
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Optional: Sriracha for extra heat
  • Garnish: Sesame seeds, sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Toss the cubed tofu with cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce until lightly coated.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the tofu cubes in a single layer. Cook, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crisp on all sides, about 6-8 minutes. Remove the tofu and set aside.
  4. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the skillet. Add the bell pepper and broccoli. Stir fry for 3 minutes until slightly tender-crisp.
  5. Add the snap peas, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the sweet chili sauce, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.
  7. Return the cooked tofu to the skillet. Pour the sauce over the tofu and vegetables.
  8. Toss everything quickly to coat evenly. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes sticky.
  9. Remove from heat. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving immediately.

Notes

  • Pressing the tofu completely removes excess water, which helps it crisp up beautifully.
  • Adjust the amount of sweet chili sauce based on your preference for sweetness and spice.
  • Serve this stir fry over brown rice or quinoa for a complete meal.
