Ingredients
Scale
1 recipe for your favorite bread stuffing
1 loaf day-old bread, cubed
1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
1/2 cup melted butter
1 onion, chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
1 teaspoon dried sage
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Prepare your base stuffing ingredients (vegetables, herbs, seasonings).
Instead of baking the stuffing separately, place the cubed bread directly into the bottom of your roasting pan, surrounding the turkey or chicken.
Pour the broth and melted butter evenly over the bread cubes.
Sprinkle the prepared vegetable and herb mixture over the bread.
Gently toss everything together right in the roasting pan.
Bake the stuffing directly in the pan juices while you cook your main protein.
Stir the stuffing halfway through cooking to ensure even moisture distribution.
Notes
This hack works best when cooking a whole bird in the same pan.
Adjust liquid based on how dry your bread is; you want the bread moist, not soggy.
Taste the mixture before adding salt; pan drippings add significant saltiness.
