Ingredients
Scale
1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (for topping)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
Add 2 1/2 cups of flour, salt, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Punch down the risen dough. Divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin stick, about 8 to 10 inches long. Place sticks on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.
While the breadsticks bake, prepare the topping: In a small bowl, combine the 1/4 cup melted butter, minced garlic, and dried parsley.
As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture.
Immediately sprinkle the tops with grated Parmesan cheese. Serve warm.
Notes
For extra cheesy breadsticks, sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the buttered sticks during the last minute of baking.
You can make the dough ahead of time and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours before the final rise.
Ensure your water temperature is correct for the yeast to activate properly.
